In early 2026, after years of displacement and uncertainty, Amal (pseudonym) returned to Anbar with little more than determination. Through a GCERF-funded sewing vocational training programme, she transformed a small corner of her home into a thriving business, turning hardship into hope and rebuilding a more stable future for herself and her family.
At 48, “Amal” (pseudonym) decided it was not too late to begin again. Living in a high-risk area of Anbar and returning after years of displacement from northern Syria, she faced economic hardship, uncertainty, and the heavy demands of rebuilding life after conflict.
Amal found a turning point through a GCERF-funded sewing vocational training delivered by Dream Organisation in partnership with the Fallujah Vocational Training Centre. For Amal, the training was more than learning a skill; it was a way to rebuild confidence, regain independence, and create a peaceful path forward for herself and her family.
Despite initial doubts, she committed fully, believing that determination matters more than age. With patience and care, she learned sewing techniques and began turning each stitched piece into a step toward stability.
After the course, Amal transformed a small corner of her home into a workspace. Using limited tools but strong determination, she began producing high-quality handmade items that slowly gained trust in her community.
Her journey culminated in participating in a Bazaar organised by the Dream Organisation, where she proudly showcased her work to the public.
